Have you been looking for dental insurance, but you're discouraged with what you have found. Does this sound familiar...

Mr. Jones wanted to get dental insurance. He went online, and he thought he found a good company with a good reputation. $100/mo? " Well, its probably worth it because I need a lot of dental work". Mr. Jones made an appointment with his favorite dentist to have an exam and cleaning. Three weeks later he gets a bill in the mail for $50. Apparently, his new insurance doesn't pay 100% for cleanings, exams, and xrays. He's already paid four months of premiums, because the insurance company made him wait 3 months before he could go in for the first cleaning. Mr. Jones needed to have one filling and one crown done. The dentist sent in a request for a predetermination of benefits, and it turns out that Mr. Jones' bill was going to be $1600! The insurance company doesn't even pay a fraction of the bill for fillings for the first 12 months, and it won't pay anything for crowns for the first 24 months! Mr. Jones cancels his policy, already having paid $450 and not getting any dental work done.

Our Smile Club dental membership plan is a simple loyalty rewards plan. $349 for your membership gets you TWO regular cleanings per year, TWO regular exams per year, and all routine xrays (like the ones taken during your routine cleaning appointments). Emergency exams and non-routine xrays are discounted by 25%. Discount cannot be combined with other specials or promotions.

The membership runs Jan 1 to Dec 31, so the sooner you sign up, the more time you have to use your benefits. Do you need dental work? Dental work is discounted 25% for our Smile Club members. If you just need one $1200 crown, then you can save $300. That's like getting your money back, and you still get your 2 free cleanings per year.

There are no claims to file. No calling and being put on hold by your insurance company. No authorizations. Most people save more money with a dental plan than buying dental insurance in the open market. The only time that dental insurance is better is when you can purchase it through a major employer. That employer may sign up for 100, 200, maybe 1000 contracts for insurance, and they often contribute 50-100% of the monthly fee. The insurance company lowers the rate, knowing that 2/3 of those employees will not use their benefits in any given year. Those that don't use their benefits SUBSIDIZE those that do. That is how to get your costs down on buying dental insurance, and if you have that option we recommend it (sign up for a PPO plan, not an HMO plan). For the rest of us, the Smile Club is your best bet to save money.
